"It Could Have Been Worse"

You know you're not having the best day when
there are two ServPro trucks in front of your house.
This was my view on July 1, 2022.

On June 28th I had discovered, on a rare trip upstairs
to my second floor, that the ceiling of a linen closet
there had crashed to the floor.

On the 30th of June the first insurance adjuster came.
He found the problem right away--a slow drip drip leak in
a pipe coming from an air conditioning unit up there.
My A/C man came that day and stopped the leak.

So...it had been leaking, therefore wet, a long time.
We think about 6 weeks. I had no idea what was in store.
Holy moly, "Hello, mold!"

By the time ServPro left on July 1st, this is what it
looked like:

All the contents of the linen closet are sealed up
in those black bags.

This is the adjoining room. So much water had leaked that
the wood subfloor was sopping wet through carpet and
a throw rug. Unbelievable!

t

And this wood floor was so wet that a special
drying mat had to be brought in later.

After enjoying the noisy fans for 6 days, this
accompaniment was added. I have a video of the
sound it made, but it doesn't do it justice.
It was a piercingly loud scream.
But it did the job! And in only 2 days!

Until today, July 25th, everything upstairs
remained looking the same!
Today all the black bags were brought down,
placed outside my back windows, and painstakingly
gone through.
I didn't take very many pictures, but they
took pictures of EVERYTHING!

My beautiful and huge lace tablecloth which fit my
table for 12!

All my treasured totes were ruined--including one
from Harrod's and several from Crystal Cruises!

Before I go any further, I must tell you how
wonderful ServPro of North Arlington is.
It is owned by Brandon Higginbotham, my friend
Darlene Mitchell's grandson.
Take it from me...if you have a need for
this type service, you should call
(972) 602-1112

So...(I didn't realize how often I say "So")
(how obnoxious)
this is how the exercise room looks now.

While the 2 ladies and I were sorting through all
the black bags, 3 other ServPro experts were
packing up the rest of the contents of the second
closet--the one in the exercise room.

The fun is just beginning, you see.
Tomorrow is demolition day. I know the closet shelves
will be gone bye bye. I hope that's it.
Then the affected area gets totally and completely
"hermetically sealed" (my term)
with a double thick, heavy plastic, zippered
enclosure. It will be "scrubbed" for mold
by a machine for ? days!

Not to mention putting it all back.
Cutting out sheetrock in a "flood cut."
Replacing the carpet in 3 rooms.

Okay, it's past time for me to say,
"It could have been worse!"
Of course, it could have. Many times over worse.
That doesn't necessarily mean I'm enjoying it.

I'll update you as it progresses.
Just thought it was past time for you to be saying,
"Oh, you poor thing!"
