Our Neighborhood Dog

I told ya'll about him a couple of weeks ago. Yes...he's still here. His name is Scout, Brownie, or Buddy,  depending on whether you ask Terri White, Coral Bradley, or me--in that order. Here he is at Terri's early on.

Yesterday I pulled out of my driveway, and there he was. I decided that I had time to stop and try to get him in my car, and I had some cookies to bribe him with. This was a very foolish decision. Not only would he not take a cookie from my hand, I made a misstep and most ungloriously crashed to the ground. It didn't hurt at all, I landed in grass, but...I couldn't immediately get up. I only sat on my neighbor Ed's curb a couple of minutes when, glory be, he pulled in his driveway and rushed over to help me up! And yes, he had been concerned about the dog too.

Here he is when I came home from Bible Study Fellowship today. "Standing on the corner watching all the cars go by!"

Buddy must not be a very smart dog, because he then passed up a golden opportunity. I looked out my front shutters, and this darling girl named Adison in this really cool car was trying to befriend him.

But bless his frightened little heart and fast little legs, he was not able to bring himself to letting her touch him or getting in her car, no matter how cool it was.

Then Coral brought out a whole McDonald's hamburger for him  (can you believe it?) which he enjoyed eating as long as no hand got too close.

Terri has already bought "Scout"an outdoor house. Coral is shopping high and low for one. He spends most nights at one or the other place. Coral has a HEATED MAT for him to put in his house when she gets it! Adison didn't want to call Animal Control again (they said they couldn't catch him earlier), so she will be watching out for him, too. I'm not calling Animal Control, because I'm really thinking Scout/Brownie/Buddy is probably leading his best life! Who knows...he may be better fed than he ever has been before! If this boy was dumped, he found himself in doggy heaven! We just all wish we could have him scanned for a chip to be sure someone is not missing him. And we're praying he doesn't get hit by a car. And that he'll be able to let some of us get close enough to find him a permanent home.
